9.3 Plan of action for emergency evacuations
When the evacuation alarm sounds, immediately follow these steps:
- Interrupt work in a safe and secure manner.
- Ventilation hood procedures: Interrupt work in ventilation hoods in a way that ensures safety even for an extended time. Then close the hood.
- Check rooms: In each room, verify that no one is left behind. Close the door when leaving.
- Bring personal items: If possible, without delaying evacuation, bring your coat, keys, and mobile phone.
- Evacuate and proceed to reassembly points.
- Building re-entry: Do not re-enter the building until authorized by Kemicentrum or Lund University security staff.
Personnel list: Departments/divisions should maintain a list of personnel and telephone numbers used to confirm that no one remains in the building.
In the event of an acute accident involving fire and smoke:
- Prioritize saving lives: Save injured or individuals directly affected by the accident.
- If the evacuation alarm hasn’t been activated, activate alarm manually using one of the nearby alarm buttons: Then call SOS
Alarm at phone number-112 (if calling from an internal phone, dial 0- 112) to verify that the alarm has been transmitted properly. - Limited fire measures: If possible, without risking personal safety, initiate measures to extinguish a limited fire.
- Close interior doors: This prevents the spread of fire and smoke. Ensure no one is left behind.
- Evacuate remaining floor: After taking the above steps, promptly evacuate the rest of the floor.
- Alternative routes: If the usual evacuation route is blocked by smoke or fire, find an alternative route.
- Coordinate with Fire Department: Upon their arrival, meet with the Fire Department. Provide information regarding which building was evacuated and the affected floor(s), the department/division where the alarm was activated, and the reason behind triggering the alarm.
You will be allowed to re-enter the building as soon as the Fire Department determines that it is safe to do so.
