11. Organization

Lund University has a central Health and Safety Committee and 28 primary work environment areas. Among these, Kemicentrum is one. Kemicentrum comprises the following two departments:

  • Department of Chemistry
  • Department of Process and Life Science Engineering

Work environment areas and responsibilities

From a work environment safety perspective, the divisions within the Department of Process and Life Science Engineering and the Department of Chemistry are treated as separate work environment areas.

In the case of The Faculty of Engineering, LTH, teaching premises and a number of laboratories are included within these work environment areas.

Within the Faculty of Science, teaching premises in Building 1 constitute a separate work environment area (Division for Undergraduate Teaching in Chemistry.

A division typically refers to a work area where the head of division is responsible for the work environment. Each division also has a health and safety representative and a deputy. The local health and safety representative represents employees and students and participates in the systematic work environment management at the workplace. However, the employer or head of division is always responsible for the work environment. Additionally, each division has a person responsible for handling inflammable materials and a fire safety representative.

Committee for environment, health, and safety

General matters related to the work environment and external environment are overseen by the Committee for Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS Committee) at Kemicentrum.

Principal health and safety representative

Kemicentrum also has a principal health and safety representative (and deputy) who coordinates the work of the health and safety representatives and represents their interests in common matters.
