6.2 Eye injuries

Chemical burns to eye occur when something splashes into it when vapors/fumes of strong chemicals irritate the eye.

If you get chemicals in your eye:

Rinse with water for at least 15-20 minutes at an eye wash station.

You might need help to keep your eyes open, to force the water to all parts of the eye.

Seek medical advice.

During transport to the hospital keep rinsing your eye with an eyewash bottle.

If you got a compound that contains silver ions in your eye, do not use saline solutions to rinse with.

Eyewash station

Start by pushing the lever all the way back.

Use the portable eyewash during transport to the hospital.
